Tennessee Warbler - Luke Tiller

I’m excited to be starting the hawkwatching season in just under a month now in Greenwich and even more excited to be preparing for some trips and tours with Sunrise Birding. I’ll be doing a select number of local fall walks for them looking for migrant shorebirds and land birds as we progress through the fall. I have carefully chosen a few of my favorite local spots to visit and hope that I will see a few of you there for those. You can find out more and sign up for them via the Sunrise Birding website (click here).

As well as the local walks for Sunrise I will be doing a couple of events for Audubon Greenwich, including an introduction to birding (aimed at those just embarking in the world of birds) on Sept. 11th and an introduction to hawkwatching program on September 18th. I am also working on a trip to Central Park and a few other of my favorite further afield places to visit in fall. Details on these trips will be available on the Audubon Greenwich website (here) once the Weekly Fall Nature Program PDF is up. Which should be very soon.

As well as going out locally this fall I am also putting together overnight tours again with Sunrise Birding for next year. The first confirmed trip is a North Carolina tour which will see us looking  for southern specialties such as Red-cockaded Woodpecker, Swainson’s Warbler as well as Henslow’s and Bachman’s Sparrow. The rest of the trip will find us heading out with the east coasts premier pelagic birding company looking for rare sea birds. This year pelagic trips on the same dates encountered Red-billed and White-tailed Tropicbird, South Polar Skua, Band-rumped Storm-Petrel, Masked and Brown Booby amongst the many goodies. You can find out more about this exciting trip and sign up for it on the Sunrise website (here). Keep your eyes peeled for other overnight trips to be released soon.
