Hi Clay,

Thanks for the further info. It was great to hear Jeff Dodge talking about some of the history of hawkwatching and banding at Braddock at the 25th Birthday Party for BBRR. It was an exciting to be at the site and an honor to be part of that history personally. Having witnessed some of the crazy accipiter flights first hand I can only imagine what it was like - I just hope you guys hadn't been pulling an all-nighter with the owls beforehand (I heard some of those stories as well!)

Luke

ps I saw a fun video of you doing a banding demonstration from about 1988 while I was there - maybe I should talk BBRR into putting it up on youtube ;)

Hi Guys -

The spring counts in Corpus Christi have been sporadic and, to my knowledge, never sent to HMANA or HWI, even though there have been 100k+ days. Luke - congrats on beating the 1987 - we were banding our ASSES off that day, as the accips were coming in below the BWs, and the hawk lures got a workout. If I remember correctly, only a few days later Nicolletti, Mather and one other person saw the ultimate raptor pairing in the same calendar day - Snowy Owl (morning) and Mississippi Kite (afternoon)!

Hey Ernesto,

Thanks for the congratulations and for the added information. I have heard rumors of big fall flights from other hawkwatchers I know but as you say no one could remember anything to quite compare in spring. All I can say was it was a real privilege to be here for such an incredible day!

All the best,

Luke

Congratulations on a great day! I have checked our records in HawkCount.org and found no other day that rivals this during spring.

As you are aware, some autumn Great Lakes and Texas sites have recorded impressive numbers of them, but as I said above, nothing like this in spring for any site in the United States or Canada.

This is fantastic!

Clic, clic, clic,
